Tree planted for Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Ben Rhydding Primary School enlisted the help of Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore to plant a tree in the school grounds.

The visit and tree planting came as part of the ‘Million Tree Pledge’ for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee later this year. As part of the pledge, one million trees will be planted across the globe as part of the jubilee celebrations.

The project is being supported by the group One Britain One Nation. The Million Tree Pledge campaign aims to address the climate emergency with an initiative that will make a difference for future generations, and leave a lasting legacy to recognise Her Majesty’s service & leadership to the nation.

Ben Rhydding Primary School themselves were celebrating ‘Earth Week’, giving pupils the chance to learn about the environment and climate change, ahead of this year’s Ilkley Carnival with an 'Our Planet' theme. During the visit, Moore also spoke at the whole school assembly and met with members of the School Council.

Robbie Moore MP said: “It was brilliant to visit Ben Rhydding Primary School just before the Easter break, and I was honoured to be the first person to plant a tree as part of One Britain One Nation’s campaign to plant one million trees across the globe for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

"This is a great initiative; not only will it improve our environment, but it will eave a lasting legacy to the incredible service of Her Majesty the Queen, at a local, national and international level.

"The visit came as part of ‘Earth Week’, a fantastic initiative run by the School to teach pupils about how we all have a part to play in protecting the environment and stopping climate change. It was also a pleasure to speak to the full school assembly as well as the school council on these matters.”
