Swap Well to Eat Well event to take place in Keighley

Ideas for improving what you eat are being offered by a new campaign, which is bringing its roadshow to Keighley next week.

The new Living Well ‘Swap Well to Eat Well’ campaign across Bradford and Keighley aims to raise awareness of the benefits of eating well, and give people ideas for simple swaps that they can make to ensure eating well is part of their daily routine. This includes encouraging people to make food swaps throughout the course of their day to improve their health and wellbeing, making swaps when they are shopping, cooking, or snacking.

To help people get started with making swaps Living Well is asking everyone in the Bradford district to ‘Swap Your Takeaway for a Fakeaway!’ Next week there will be pop-up events in local shopping centres across the district, giving away free recipe ingredient packs and encouraging people to join in with the Swap Well to Eat Well challenge.

Each pack contains the recipe and ingredients needed to make a Fakeaway Curry or Fakeaway Wraps to feed a family of four. People only need to add the protein of their choice, whether it’s chicken, turkey, paneer, tofu, pulses or beans, the options are endless meaning the packs are suitable for almost all dietary requirements.

Pick up a free Fakeaway recipe kit, whilst stocks last, from 10am – 2pm at:

  • Airedale Shopping Centre, Keighley – Tuesday 15 November
  • Kirkgate Shopping Centre, Bradford – Wednesday 16 November
  • Shipley Indoor Market – Thursday 17 November
  • Broadway Shopping Centre, Bradford – Friday 18 November

People who are lucky enough to pick up one of the Fakeaway ingredients packs can simply follow the recipe cards inside or, if they haven’t managed to pick up a pack, watch the step-by-step films on the Living Well website to get cooking these delicious Fakeaways.

Cllr Sue Duffy, Bradford Council's Portfolio Holder for Children and Families and Living Well said: “Eating healthy and well balanced meals is so important for improving people’s health and wellbeing. The cost of living crisis is a worrying time for everyone with rising food and energy prices making it harder for individuals, families and communities to make ends meet.

"Living Well has worked closely with a wide range of local people and organisations to identify the information needed to make it a little easier for people in Bradford district to eat a healthy nutritious diet through making simple food swaps, whilst also making their shopping budgets go further.”

The Living Well website offers lots of low-cost healthy meal ideas with step-by-step instructions, along with guides to storing foods for longer, ideas for lunch boxes and simple food swaps that are healthy, nutritious and easy to include in daily life. There’s also a useful checklist of foods to keep stocked in cupboards, fridges and freezers alongside a weekly meal planner to help you stay on track when food shopping.

All of the information is available on the Living Well website mylivingwell.co.uk where people can download a handy information pack to keep. Printed information packs are also available in sports centres, libraries and some healthcare settings across the district.
