Skipton's Plaza Cinema plans reopening in coming weeks

The Plaza Cinema in Skipton has confirmed that it is working on plans to reopen again after almost 7 months.

In a Facebook post, the cinema said it was looking to open 'in the next few weeks'.

The venue, on Sackville Street, has the same owner as Keighley's Picture House as well as cinemas in Elland, Leeds, Ulverston and Windermere.

It's understood a meeting this week will confirm the reopening plans for all of the Northern Morris Cinemas theatres.

Skipton's Plaza closed its doors temporarily on 20th March this year because of the pandemic.

The Plaza said: "Sadly you will have seen on the news Disney, Universal and a large number of other studios have shifted or cancelled most of the big films until 2021. But we will fight on. The Plaza has survived 103+ years and hopefully can survive many more."

It added that it would look at running some classic and cult film showings in a Covid-safe environment.
