Skipton Gala returns this weekend after 2 year break

Skipton Gala is back this Saturday and will see the crowning of a Gala Queen who's been waiting to take over the role since 2019.

Emily Dollard was selected for the role back then and would have been formally made Skipton's Gala Queen in 2020. However, the pandemic meant the event did not happen, nor did it go ahead in 2021.

Emily will be joined on the lead float by her attendants Sophie Evans and Arya Broughton. All three are pupils at Embsay Primary School.

The gala procession will be led by Keighley's Jamba Samba Band from Westmoreland Street, departing at 1pm on Saturday (11th June). After passing through town and up Gargrave Road it is due to arrive in Aireville Park shortly after 2pm.

Rombalds Radio's Stuart Clarkson will be joined on stage by Skipton's Deputy Mayor Councillor Sheila Bentley and there will be a presentation to retiring Gala Queen Poppy Reardon as well as the crowning of Emily.

Prizes will also be awarded from the procession for best fancy dress and best floats across a selection of categories.

Entertainment in the park throughout the afternoon in the arena will be provided by the Vander Superheroes Space Wheel Show, Jamba Samba Band and Ambitions Gymnastics.

There will also be the opportunity to 'meet the dinosaurs' who'll be in Aireville Park, and a funfair will continue until late into the evening - finishing with a fireworks display at around 9.30pm.
