Rotarians hand over £25k donation to hospice after Santa Fun Run

The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven has presented £25,000 to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice following November's Skipton Santa Fun Run.

The event saw more than 1,700 people join in from across the UK, Europe and as far afield as America.

Those taking part ran, walked or wheelchaired their way around a 3k or 5k route, while dressed in Santa suits or, for the first time, eco-friendly t-shirts.

The event raised a total of £49,617, of which £25,000 has been donated to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, which provides expert palliative care, advice and support to people living with life-limiting conditions, as well as supporting their families.

The cheque was presented to Community Fundraiser Adam Brunskill at the hospice by Geoff Maldwyn-Jones, president of the Skipton Craven Rotary Club, alongside John Eddison and Peter Ripley.

Geoff said: "In these difficult times, it is almost unimaginable that we could have raised so much money through our Christmas activities, and this is solely due to the generosity of the people of Skipton and surrounding villages, Santa Fun Run participants, sponsors and anonymous donors."

Adam added: “I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Skipton Craven for once again choosing Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice as the main beneficiary of this fantastic local event.

“£25,000 is incredible and a new record amount which shows just how immensely popular the Skipton Santa Fun Run is. This extremely generous donation will help us to make sure we can keep offering our expert palliative care and support to local families when they need us the most – and fill last days with love.”
