Plans to turn Keighley cafe into micropub are approved

Friday, 25 February 2022 18:38

A new micropub can open in the centre of Keighley after planning officers said the business would help “stimulate activity” in that part of the town.

A planning application to convert a former cafe on Church Street, Cafe 61, into a continental style micropub were submitted to Bradford Council by Christopher Melling.

Before being converted into a cafe, the unit had been a take away. It has been empty for over nine months.

The application said the bar would serve international drinks, and help boost an area of Keighley that tends to shut after 5pm.

The unit is part of Hattersley’s Crescent, a Grade II listed Victorian shopping parade.

Planning officers said the pub “would bring this part of the listed building back into productive use as well as serving to stimulate activity along this part of Church Street.

“The proposed scale of the use is modest and it is unlikely to have any significant harmful impact on local amenity or road safety,” they added.
