Official launch of Ilkley petanque terrain

The new Petanque terrain (or court) was officially opened by Ilkley Town Mayor, Mark Stidworthy on Saturday, 23 April, ably assisted by Ilkley town crier, Isabel Ashman.

It is located in the Riverside Memorial Gardens close to the Riverside Hotel and once the ribbon was cut, fizz and nibbles were served to the large crowd that attended.

Thanks were given to the grant-fundors: Ilkley Town Council, Ilkley Round Table, The National Lottery Sports Fund and Bradford Community Action Grant.

Further thanks were given to those members of the community who had sponsored the memorial benches located around the terrain.

After the opening ceremony enthusiastic boule players enjoyed the new facility and it is hoped that more and more players will now take up the game. Membership is only £10 per annum and members meet 3 times a week to play. If interested in becoming a member please email Ilkleypetanque@gmail.com for further information. Alternatively come and play with your own boules for free outside of the members reserved times. Sets of boules are also available to borrow, free of charge, from the Riverside Hotel.
