Ilkley Manor House hosted a sold out fashion show on Saturday, 27 May, with volunteers taking to the runway modelling replica clothing from the medieval period.

The show was a huge success and the excitement was palpable as visitors endeavoured to get front row seats.

The show was part of Ilkley Manor House’s wider focus on the medieval period, which has included: talks on herbal remedies, making pomanders with younger visitors, displays exploring how we used to live, and an exhibition of works by world-renowned medieval embroidery specialist, Tanya Bentham, who also made the costumes for the day and kindly took on the role of compère.

Visitor Engagement Lead for Ilkley Manor House and medieval enthusiast, Alex Wild, says, “The community came together to put on this incredible show! Members of Ilkley Playhouse, The Flying Duck, and the Bromleys from Burnt Orchid (who restored the outside lantern) bravely volunteered to model alongside our stalwart Ilkley Manor House volunteers. Tanya's cheeky and fun humour created a welcoming and upbeat atmosphere; her work is simply magical to behold. I am so grateful to everyone who has helped bring this event together and to Tanya for bringing her amazing skills to Ilkley Manor House.”

Ilkley Manor House’s medieval focus, including the exhibition of Tanya’s embroidery, continues every weekend throughout May and June. Visitors can enjoy the Medieval Garden, recently opened by Alan Titchmarsh, every day of the week. For further information, please visit: ilkleymanorhouse.org
