Local MPs call for Tory party leader change

Keighley & Ilkley MP Robbie Moore and Skipton MP Julian Smith have both responded to growing calls for the Prime Minister to resign.

Mr Moore said he had re-submitted a letter of no confidence in Boris Johnson to the Chair of the Conservative Party's backbench 1922 committee, and says the current situation is 'not sustainable'.

Mr Smith, meanwhile, re-tweeted a selection of resignation letters from ministers and said the Prime Minister should 'take the lead in a responsible transition to ensure stable government for our country'.

It comes after dozens of Mr Johnson's own MPs resigned from their government posts and urged him to resign.

Robbie Moore said: "Integrity, trust and honesty matters. It has been clear for some time that the current situation is not sustainable.

"I voted against The Prime Minister in the vote of no confidence last month.

"My position on this has not changed, and I have since re-submitted a letter of no confidence to the Chairman of the 1922 Committee.

"We need new Conservative leadership to take our country forward."

Julian Smith wrote on Twitter: "The Prime Minister is absolutely right in what he said just said at the liaison committee, 'all flesh is grass'. He must now take the lead in a responsible transition to ensure stable government for our country."
