Local MP: "Fireworks Misuse must be tackled urgently"

Local MP Robbie Moore has launched a ‘Firework Misuse’ survey.

Although Bonfire Night is coming up, fireworks are regularly being set off at all times of the year, often in the early hours of the morning, and throughout the week, keeping local residents awake, and scaring pets.

Mr. Moore is working with Keighley Councillor Mohammed Nazam, and Keighley West Councillor Julie Glentworth to address the issue, and has said he is supportive of further restrictions on the sale of loud fireworks, especially outside of ‘key event times’ such as Bonfire Night and New Year’s Eve.

The local MP has launched a survey of residents to demonstrate the scale of the problem to Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police, and is asking for local residents to take part.

Robbie Moore MP said “Fireworks are being set off throughout the year and at all hours, disturbing local residents and scaring our pets. This just isn’t acceptable. That’s why I'm supportive of further measures on the sale of fireworks, but I want to hear your views. The results of my Fireworks Misuse Survey will be fed back to Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police. Action must now be taken, and we need to demonstrate to them just how serious this issue is.”

Keighley West Councillor Julie Glentworth said “Firework misuse is a big issue in Keighley - in particular they terrify animals, including my own dog, Tinkerbell. We need further restrictions on the sale of fireworks, and I urge everyone to take part in the survey, so we can demonstrate to the Police and Bradford Council how widespread this issue is.”

Keighley Central Councillor Mohammed Nazam said “Local residents are being kept awake at all hours by this anti-social behaviour - especially on weeknights. As I new Councillor, I want to get to grips with this issue and tackle it once and for all, so I’ll continue to work with Robbie Moore MP to push for further restrictions on the use of fireworks.”
