Keighley to hold creative event ahead of Earth Day

Keighley Town Council is inviting local residents to take part in a creative event next week as part of the build up to Earth Day.

The session at the Downstairs Drop-In area of the Civic Centre on North Street on Thursday 13th April will include stone painting, poster-making, micro indoor garden planting and the creation of a community mural.

The Downstairs Drop-In is maintained and managed by local community resource group Keighley Urban Meadows.

A spokesperson for the group said, “Earth Day is fast becoming a popular date in the diary on a global scale and as interest in the environment and climate change continues to grow, we thought it would be nice to share some ideas local people, parents and their children can do in their own communities without breaking the bank.”

A spokesperson for Keighley Town Council said “This event is just a small part of the council’s commitment to raising awareness of climate change and local environmental issues. We are hoping that local people will share their ideas, concerns and observations in a special survey that will help to develop the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan”.

The 'Countdown to Earth Day' event begins at 10.30am on 13th April and all materials, activities, food and refreshments are free.

Earth Day itself is on 22nd April.
