Firefighters have scaled back the operation at Dalton Mills in Keighley after spending several hours tackling a major fire on Thursday afternoon.
Around 20 fire engines and 100 firefighters were on site on Dalton Lane at the height of the incident, with officers saying the inside of the building has been completely destroyed.
Residents living nearby had been urged to close their windows and doors and stay inside, with a small number taking up the offer of moving out of the area to The Leisure Centre at Victoria Park for a short time. Bradford Council later closed the emergency rest centre there.
Dalton Lane remains closed between Bradford Road and Riverside and people are still being urged to stay away from the area.
The full extent of the damage is likely to be known in the coming days, while an investigation will look into how the fire started.
Crews were called at lunchtime on Thursday, with firefighters from across West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Lancashire joining the effort.
Nick Smith from West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service told BBC Look North: "This building has been fully involved and the internals of the building are now destroyed. It's a sad end to what's been a popular landmark and a mill within the Keighley community."
