Ilkley Lido will open for two weeks

After extensive renovations which has kept it closed over the summer season, Ilkley Lido is to reopen on Monday 4 October for two weeks until Sunday 17 October.

Opening hours will be: Monday to Friday: 7.30am - 8.30am and 2.30pm - 5.30pm, Saturday and Sunday: 11am - 2pm. No need to book, payment can be made at reception.

The cost: Adult swim: £4.80, Junior swim: £2.50, Under 3s: Free, Members: Free

It is highly recommended a wet suit and swim cap are worn at all times in water temperature below 15°C. Below 12°C customers are recommended to only swim for a maximum of 20 minutes. The Lido will close at temperatures below 10°C.

The Lido has undergone refurbishment works along with improvements to the filtration system at a cost of £1.4 million. The work was more extensive and took longer to complete than planned. The council say it has strengthened and will protect the Lido for years to come.

The Lido cafe will be open in the afternoons and on weekends selling a limited range of food and drinks.

Bradford Council said: "Customers are encouraged to wear face masks whilst using our facility. Hand sanitiser dispensers will remain in place at the entrance door and throughout the facility. Could we ask all customers to check in using the NHS COVID-19 App, the QR codes are dotted around reception. If you do not have the App a member of staff will take your contact number."

Speaking about the news that the lido is now due to finally reopen Councillor Kyle Green (Con, Ilkley) commented, “I am delighted that the lido is finally back ready to be opened.

"This process has been a farcical one as it was November 2020 when this work was first announced. While I can accept there were complications, these simply should have been identified and resolved earlier and it shouldn’t have taken this long to sort - especially as the lido isn’t used all year round.

"I sincerely hope we now see more investment in one of the treasures of Ilkley to avoid a repeat of this kind of situation and that we finally see the lido pavilion brought into use given it currently sits as an empty shell of a building.

For now though I’m looking forward to hopefully taking what is likely to be a chilly dip before they close again until next spring.”
