Christchurch on The Grove in Ilkley is inviting everyone to a Toilet Twinning Tea Party on Saturday, 25th March, celebrating the newly refurbished toilets and fundraising for the charity Toilet Twinning.
A spokesperson for Christchurch said: “We live in a world where over a fifth of the human population do not have access to a safe toilet. In fact, half of schools in the least developed countries have nowhere for children to wash their hands at all. As people who live in one of the most developed nations of the world, we at Christchurch believe we can do something about this which is why we’re having a fundraising party to celebrate the newly refurbished accessible toilets in the church foyer, and we’d like to invite you to join us.
“Please come along to find out more about Toilet Twinning and have some fun on Saturday as the Christchurch Ethical Action Forum are holding a Toilet & Tap Twinning Tea Party in the Lower Hall at Christchurch from 2pm-5pm. There will be refreshments, a bake stall, a quiz and some fun toilet themed games and crafts for the whole family to enjoy. At 4pm the newly refurbished accessible toilets will be ceremonially opened by Rev. Roberta and a special guest. The Tea Party is a free event, but we are welcoming donations and hoping to raise enough funds to twin all the new toilets and taps.
“Toilet Twinning is a fantastic charity which aims to provide sustainable, reliable, and affordable access to clean, safe water and toilets for those living in some of the poorest communities worldwide. They work with communities to set up local water and sanitation committees enabling the community to own their project and benefit from it as they learn of the direct link between sanitation and health. Their ‘community-led total sanitation’ approach ensures the toilets & taps built are sustainable and provide both dignity and respect to their owners. These communities are marginalised, often remote and in countries where their governments continue to fail to provide adequate water and sanitation to their citizens. As well as working in extremely poor communities with long-term development needs, they also work in conflict affected areas and regions hit by natural disasters.
