A new salon could soon be opening in an empty unit in Keighley’s Victorian Royal Arcade.
The Grade II listed arcade on Worth Way is home to businesses including Cake Ole and Aire Valley Guitars.
But one of the businesses, The Ginning Rat bar shut last year, and the unit, which faces out onto the street, remains empty.
A planning application to convert the unit into a hairdressing salon has been submitted to Bradford Council by Janet Holroyd.
Conservation officers have supported the plans, saying the minor changes will have little impact on the listed arcade.
Keighley Town Council has also recommended the plans be approved.
A decision on the application is expected in May.
The arcade is just yards from the site of a major town centre redevelopment due to begin later this year.
A new Aldi supermarket, Tim Horton take away and several smaller shops are being built on a long empty former mill site the other side of Worth Way.
