Gym plan for upper floors of village mill

Demand for gyms in Bingley and Keighley has “reached maximum capacity” – according to a new planning application.

Plans to convert the vacant third floor of Cullingworth Mill into a new gym has been submitted to Bradford Council by Rhys Bokalo.

The village mill is home to an antiques centre, but its two upper floors have been vacant since the 1980s.

The application says: “The applicant is based in the local area and is keen to establish a gym in Cullingworth.

“Demand for existing gyms in the nearby towns of Keighley and Bingley have reached maximum capacity limits.

“There is therefore real and significant demand for new gyms in the area, and it is the intension of the applicant to market the gym to customers in Cullingworth in particular, as the business emphasis is one of creating a local gym for local people.”

“The benefits of this proposal are that the mill building can be fully restored, and its local heritage retained. The works to the building result in it being rejuvenated to accommodate a modern business, whilst still retaining its historical character, as beams and roof trusses will be an intrinsic feature of the upper floor design.”

A decision on the application is expected in February.
