Grants available for Coronation events in local neighbourhoods

Bradford Council is offering grants of up to £250 to community groups and residents wanting to organise events to mark the King's Coronation at the start of May.

There's a three-day bank holiday weekend from Saturday 6th to Monday 8th May, following the Coronation itself in London on the Saturday.

Bradford Council is encouraging people from across the district to get involved in organising and attending events and activities to celebrate the occasion.

The Local Authority has launched a small grants fund to help local people to organise their own events. Local residents and community organisations will be able to apply for grants of up to £250 to put on events in their neighbourhoods.

The council has received funding from the Department of Culture Media and Sport via the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to help the district celebrate and flags and bunting will be going up in locations across the area including Ilkley and Keighley.

The Coronation Ceremony and the Coronation Concert will be shown live on the Big Screen in Centenary Square in Bradford city centre for those who want to join together to celebrate.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Martin Love, said: “It was great to see communities from across the Bradford district coming together to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee for her late Majesty the Queen, and many people would like to join in with celebrations for the Coronation in much the same way. This is a momentous event in our history and a great opportunity for everyone to have fun and get together to celebrate.”
