Fundraising appeal to pay for Glusburn clock repairs

The trustees of Glusburn Community and Arts Centre have launched a fundraising appeal to help pay a £2,000 bill for urgent repairs to the building's historic clock.

Whilst the oldest parts of Glusburn Institute are dated 1892, additions were made in several phases including, in 1911, the addition of the Clock Tower, with the clock itself being dedicated to the Coronation of King George V in the same year.

Manufactured by Potts of Leeds, the Institute’s clock has kept time for the residents of Glusburn ever since, and is carefully maintained by a volunteer clock winder and serviced annually by Smiths of Derby.

Unfortunately, at their recent service visit Smiths found that, at 111 years old, the clock is in need of some intensive care. Part of the mechanism needs to be removed and taken to their workshop for essential repairs, at the cost of £2,180.

The charity has now launched a "Tick Tock Don't Stop" campaign to try to help keep this part of Glusburn's heritage ticking for the community for many more years.

You can make a pledge online at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/tick-tock-dont-stop---glusburn-institute-clock or donate in person at the centre office.
