Friends of Airedale receives building society donation

Customers at the Keighley branch of Skipton Building Society have been supporting local charities over the last six weeks - including Friends of Airedale Hospital.

Friends of Airedale Chairman John Lofthouse recently accepted a cheque for £300, which was raised through the building society's Community Giving Scheme.

Customers at the Keighley branch used coloured tokens to ‘vote’ for one of three local charities, and a total of £1,000 was paid out to FoA, It’s Worth Talking About and Relate.

Emma Little, customer consultant who organised the Keighley branch charity push and presented the cheques, said: “Across our 88 branches, Skipton Building Society has donated a total of £88,000 to local causes.

"In this area, everyone has known someone in Airedale so we believe the Friends is an important cause to support – and our customers clearly thought so too.”

John Lofthouse, Chair of Friends of Airedale said: “We’re delighted to have received the donation which is particularly welcome after such a difficult couple of years. Like all charities, the pandemic severely curtailed our income, so anything and everything that helps to keep our vital services running is most welcome.”

Friends of Airedale is a group of volunteers dedicated to supporting Airedale General Hospital by undertaking a number of roles within the hospital and in the community. It also raises money to buy equipment to benefit patients and – in the past – has donated between £150,000 to £200,000 worth of equipment and services to the Airedale NHS Foundation Trust each year.
