Fire crews tackle wildfire on Skipton Moor

Fire crews from Skipton, Settle and Grassington have been dealing with a wildfire on Skipton Moor.

Four fire engines attended to tackle a fire which measured 100m x 20m. It was extinguished using an argocat, knapsack sprayers, wildfire tools and beaters.

In a post on Facebook, Skipton Fire Station said: "With the risk of wildfire currently at its highest for the year please be mindful of how you dispose of cigarettes and only use bbqs in designated areas as heat can transfer very quickly In to the already incredibly dry ground!"

Crews also went to a large wildfire in the Long Lee area of Keighley on Tuesday evening. Reports from nearby residents reported large amounts of smoke and fire near to Harden Moor.

West Yorkshire Fire Service confirmed the fire, involving heather, measured approximately 200m x 200m. It was put out with crews from Silsden, Keighley and other local fire stations staying on scene for several hours.
