Exhibition to celebrate the life and art of unsung local hero

An exciting new exhibition celebrating the life and art of an unsung local hero, Jack Hellewell, will be taking place in Ilkley Manor House.

This retrospective, which will be the first of a continuing series of exhibitions exploring Jack’s art, will focus on highlights of a vast body of work from throughout his career. Including various mediums and styles, many of which depict the local landscape.

The show will bring paintings and drawings back to life that have never been on public display before.

“I want people to enjoy my art. I enjoy it. I want it to bring joy. Or at least a reaction.”

Jack lived all over the world throughout his life but spent his most productive years in a Victorian eyrie overlooking his beloved Ilkley moors.

Jack’s work was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in the 1990s and is in the collections of Manchester City Art Gallery, Rochdale Art Gallery, British Rail, the National Power Company and Provident Financial, Bradford.

Admission is free to the exhibition which will be open every weekend from 12 November to 12 December from 11am – 4pm (except for the weekend of 27 and 28 November when the Christmas Fair will be taking place in the Manor House).
