Duck Race returns on Ilkley Carnival day

Down at the River Wharfe the ducks are assembling for another spectacular race as part of the Ilkley Carnival programme of events to be held on Monday 2 May.

The Great Ilkley Duck Race is organised by the Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club and the ducks will be launched from the New Brook Street Bridge at 2pm, with the finish line some 350 metres downstream.

First prize is £200, second prize £100 and the next three ducks will win £50 each. The winners will be contacted on the day and prizes presented on the Carnival field if the winners are present. The winning numbers will also be published in the Gazette, on Ilkley Chat, Rombalds Radio and on the Rotary Club website.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “If you want to enter the race, tickets are £2 each and can be obtained at the Riverside Hotel, or online by clicking on the link below.

“Alternatively, search for “Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary” in your browser. Please note that the last Rotary Duck Race in August 2021 completely sold out, so get your tickets early. The Club will also be selling tickets in advance at locations around Ilkley in the weeks beforehand.

“All profits from the duck race will be given to charitable causes - Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary has no administrative or management overheads - and every penny will go to charity.

“In the event that the river conditions are not appropriate – e.g. the currents are running too fast for those volunteers who will be in the river on the day - then there will be a Raffle draw to decide the winners.

"Let’s hope we have a really good day with plenty of sunshine and a perfect river for ducks.”
