A retired landscape gardener in Cross Hills is inviting people to visit his garden in return for a donation to the Airedale Hospital and Community Charity.
Stephen Clemence has spent the last 15 years working on his small 'sunken cottage style' garden in the village.
“Greystones” has a range of small trees, herbaceous shrubs, roses and an alpine rockery - and visitors will be welcome to explore the grotto and bothy as well as seasonal planting and water features.
Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from July 2023 to June 2024, Stephen will be on hand 11am to 4pm to show fellow gardening enthusiasts how to make the most of small gardens.
He says: "When visiting Greystones, I do hope that visitors will gain some inspiration, especially when faced with the challenges of developing a small space. I really look forward to meeting lots of people and sharing our gardening stories – good for the soil and the soul!”
Entry is available by pre-booked telephone appointments at £4 per person (children under 10 are free, and children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult) and there will be refreshments available for a small fee if pre-arranged. All funds raised by Stephen’s open garden will be donated to AHCC, the official NHS charity of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, which raises funds to support patients, their families, and staff.
Laura Hepworth, community fundraiser at Airedale Hospital & Community Charity, adds: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Stephen for opening his garden to the public in support of the AHCC – the proceeds and donations made by visitors over the coming months will help us to raise vital funds – with the added benefit that the local community can experience his beautiful garden!”
