Craven pair's debut marathon run raises over £2k for kids' charity

Two former rugby-playing mates from Skipton and Kildwick have raised more than £2,000 for the Principle Trust Children's Charity after completing the Rob Burrow Marathon this weekend.

It was the first time Nathan Metcalfe from Skipton and Adam Gillard from Kildwick had run a marathon.

The pair of 43-year olds met as teenagers in the 1990s when they played rugby together.

On Sunday they raised £2,100 for the charity by completing the inaugural Rob Burrow Marathon which started and finished in Headingley and came out into the Wharfe Valley as far as Otley and Poole-in-Wharfedale.

Adam reached the finish line in 4 hours 28 minutes while Nathan followed with a time of 5 hours 19 minutes.

Founder of The Principle Trust, Mike Davies, MBE, commented, "Thanks to generous supporters like Nathan and Adam and many others, The Principle Trust is able to help disadvantaged families across Yorkshire to escape their everyday troubles and create valuable, happy memories.

The Skipton-based charity provides free respite holidays to children who are underprivileged, disadvantaged, disabled, have life-limiting conditions, or who have experienced poverty, trauma or abuse. Since its launch in 2011, The Trust has provided respite breaks for more than 4,500 children across the Yorkshire region.
