Craven College students take part in stage combat workshop

Students on Craven College's Performing Arts courses came to blows recently after the fight director from Coronation Street led a session on stage combat.

Kenan Ali, a stunt actor and combatant, teaches dramatic combat in theatre schools, colleges and universities across the north of England and has a wealth of experience across many disciplines to help create hard-hitting fight scenes for all media.

The afternoon session packed a punch as students on the Performing Arts Level 2, Level 3 and HNC courses learned timing, safety, discipline and acting within the art of combat.

Tom Aldersley, Performing Arts lecturer at Craven College said: “We were delighted to welcome Kenan into Craven College to work with our Performing Arts students. Kenan, who is the fight director for Coronation Street, is one of only a few BADC qualified and accredited fight directors in the country and he brought all this experience and skills to his workshop with our students.

"The students learned punching, slapping and hair pulling, all perfectly safe, of course! The students will use these new skills in their forthcoming musical theatre production, Footloose in January.”
