Cow and Calf heritage discovered at first Friends of Ilkley Moor event

The first of the Friends of Ilkley Moors’ 2022 events, the ‘Cow and Calf’ heritage walk, took place on Sunday 22nd of May.

People discovered the famous cow and calf rocks, the geology of the quarry, a cup and ring stone; and learnt about the wildlife of the moor. Walking past streams, through the heathlands and Rocky Valley, it was a delightful walk, which everybody enjoyed; with time at the end to pass through the pine woods near the cow and calf rocks.

More practical conservation days in habitat management took place in May, where volunteers helped manage and conserve the habitats of Ilkley Moor and helped to restore eroded footpaths.

Future walks include 'The Birds of Ilkley Moor' on 4th June, Heritage Walk: Archaeology on 5th June and The Plants and Trees of Ilkley Moor on 19th June. Further details are available here.

Anybody who is interested in the attending future events please contact Tracy Gray, FOIM Project Officer on 07780535860 or tracy@ilkleymoor.org
