Cliffe Castle Park wins at Yorkshire in Bloom competition

Keighley's Cliffe Castle Park was crowned overall winner in the parks, gardens, cemeteries and public buildings category at the recent Yorkshire in Bloom awards.

Judges described it as “a wonderful park with beautiful parkland providing amazing community facilities and support.” They also praised the site for being well-maintained with “particular attention to the environment.” The judges were impressed that the park is used for wide range of community events, including health and wellbeing activities, workshops and arts events.

Keighley in Bloom also won a Silver Gilt in the Large Town category, while the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway won Silver Gilt in the Tourist Attraction category.

Yorkshire in Bloom is the voluntary regional organisation and charity that administers the RHS Britain in Bloom campaign in Yorkshire which pits rural villages, towns and city centres against one another against a range of criteria that included horticultural know-how, community engagement, efforts to bolster biodiversity and climate change adaptation.

The win for Cliffe Castle was one of a number for parks and green spaces owned by Bradford Council. Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Porfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places, said: “I am delighted that we have again been recognised for these awards. It’s a testimony to the hard work and commitment of our Parks and Green Spaces Service, the friends of groups and many other volunteers and community groups.

“Our parks and green spaces have become even more valuable and vital over the last couple of years, so all involved deserve this level of recognition.”

The competition is assessed by local judges on criteria developed by the RHS.
