Clarke Foley Ilkley memory book launch

L-R: Jane Forster, Tom Garbutt, (smallprint), Ann Whitehouse and Pam Wilson

The Clarke Foley Centre in Ilkley memories book was officially launched last week.

On Friday 3rd December contributors to the book attended, together with Clarke Foley Directors. Chairman, Stuart Hyde QPM, and Trisha Loy. Also in attendance were Ilkley District Councillors Anne Hawkesworth and Mike Gibbons.

Stuart Hyde welcomed everyone to the event and stressed what a wonderful asset the centre is to Ilkley and thanked Anne Whitehouse, Jane Forster and Pam Wilson for their hard work and commitment to compiling the book and bringing it to fruition.

Anne Whitehouse, whose idea it was, then explained how the book came about. She was all set to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the centre with fund raising events when Covid hit. She then thought that A Memories Book with stories of those who had worked at the centre, volunteered or visited over the years would be a nice alternative way to celebrate 40 years.

Ann thanked those who had contributed and also her Granddaughter, Sarah Whitehouse for proof reading and securing the forward by Alan Titchmarsh.

She then thanked Tom Garbutt and Justin Leeming of smallprint Menston who guided us through the publishing process.

Pam Wilson then read a short poem about the book, written by Chris Tetley, one of the contributors.

Thanks were the given by Jane Forster to the staff and volunteers at the centre for their cooperation and help for administration, catering and the display of flowers.

The book is on sale for £10 and can be bought from the Clarke Foley Community Centre café.
