Ashlands community bonfire returns with a bang

The Ashlands Primary School Bonfire and Fireworks community event returned after a Covid hiatus on Saturday and was well attended.

Once again this year many of the regular bonfire and firework events across the area were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

A spokesperson from the organisers of the event said: "It was bigger and better than ever. Many people joined us for food, sweets and drinks. It was lovely to see so many from our local area and further afield enjoying something a little more like normality. A huge thank you to all our parents, staff, ex pupils and ex parents who came and supported this event - without you it would not take place!"

A comment from Nabin Maharjan on the Ilkley Chat Facebook page said: "What a fantastic event. It was great to see the whole community coming together to celebrate the long awaited events like this. We need more of these to bring communities together and fill the sadness with joy which was sadly not been part of our daily lives for quite some time. We thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to more of these. Well done to the school and everyone who were involved."
