Ilkley Town AFC's match at Carlton Athletic was held up for around 20 minutes this weekend after an alpaca got onto the pitch.
Ilkley went on to win 2-0 with goals from Tom Fleming and Joe Chilaka.
But it was Oscar the alpaca who stole the show, after jumping a fence to escape from a nearby field and onto the pitch, 35 minutes into the first half.
Play was stopped, while efforts were made to entice Oscar to the sidelines. Eventually this was achieved after the farmer came with some food.
The game was taking place at Carlton, which is near to Rothwell in south east Leeds.
"We get plenty of dogs on the pitches but never an alpaca," chairman Richard Giles told Rombalds Radio.
"There's a little farm next to the football pitch - two alpacas and a few goats. One of the alpacas jumped the fence and found its way onto the football pitch."
"The players were just shocked. They were standing back and keeping well away - it was quite skittish. You can see from the video clip that Joe our full back was being eyed up by the alpaca, but he turned, dropped his shoulder and did a swerve to get away from it."
The incident was caught on camera by the club and has since gone viral, with BBC Sport and Sky News among those sharing the footage.
Richard added: "We've had 600 thousand views on social media and my phone's been red hot with journalists from all around the world contacting us. It was on Match of the Day - it's incredible what social media can do once you get something amusing that people hook onto. It was completely by surprise and quite an incredible experience if I'm honest."
