Addingham man raises £825 for Airedale Hospital stroke ward

Michael Murry (known as Minty) recently raised £825 for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity by doing a sponsored head and beard shave.

The funds raised will go to Airedale hospital’s ward 5 (stroke ward).

Airedale Hospital and Community Charity is the official NHS charity for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The charity raises funds to invest in patient experience and staff wellbeing at Airedale hospital and its community services.

Minty has had four strokes in the past, which have affected his memory at times. This, as well as the fact that Airedale is his local hospital, is why he chose Airedale Hospital and Community Charity’s stroke fund.

Sara Mortimer, a friend of Minty’s and manager at Addingham Social Club, said: “The head shave was done at Addingham Social Club and lots of people from the local community came to watch to support Minty and sponsor him. I made a Facebook post on the social club site and then donations came flooding in.

“A special thank you goes to the members of Addingham Social Club, Addingham residents and customers of the Midland Hotel in Ilkley for all their donations. We’d also like to thank Charlotte who volunteered to cut Minty’s hair and Sally who helped with ensuring this all went well.”

Jodie Hearnshaw, manager at Airedale Hospital and Community Charity, said: “We’re really grateful to Minty and the team at Addingham Social Club for this fabulous donation. It is hugely appreciated by the team on ward 5, who will be able to use the funds to purchase important equipment to aid rehabilitation in stroke patients.”
