Ilkley and Ben Rhydding District Councillors, Kyle Green and Andrew Loy, are delighted that after working hard with residents to improve safety on the A65 they have secured £50,000 funding from Bradford Council to introduce a puffin crossing on Leeds Road.
Having met with residents, Bradford Council highways officers and Conservative Town Councillor David Nunns to investigate what measures could be done to improve road safety near the dangerous crossing by Sunshine takeaway, Councillor Green was delighted to confirm the funding for a new puffin crossing in a recent vote on the Keighley Area Committee.
The new puffin crossing will either replace the existing crossing which has failed to curb dangerous incidents or will be built closer to Ashlands Primary School in order to facilitate more active travel to the primary school. The decision on the location has not yet been made and District Councillors Andrew Loy and Kyle Green are keen for feedback from residents on where the best site for the puffin crossing should be. Speaking about securing the new funding, Councillor Loy stated, "This is fantastic news and will greatly improve safety for pedestrians at a dangerous road crossing. I am keen to see more targeted road safety improvements across the town which deliver on residents' priorities."
Adding to this, Councillor Green commented, "I am thrilled to have been able to work with residents to secure funding for this vital road safety improvement. I know when I met with residents with Town Councillor David Nunns the feedback was clear that the existing zebra crossing was not safe. I am therefore delighted to have been able to work with Bradford Council officers and residents to secure this much needed funding."
