Skipton Girls' High School headteacher to step down this summer

The Head of Academy at Skipton Girls' High School, Mark Turner, has decided to leave the role to begin a study of Theology.

Mr Turner joined the school as Head of Academy in April 2019, after previously working at schools in Bristol and Wiltshire.

In a letter to parents, the Northern Star Academies Trust CEO Jenn Plews and chair of school governors Howard Cutler said that a new headteacher would be in place to lead the school from September.

They wrote: "Mark has decided, after much careful consideration and prayer that his next step will be into a Christian ministry/mission-based role and he intends to begin part time study of Theology alongside part-time employment in September.

"Mark has asked us to pass on his thanks to the Skipton Girls’ High School community for their support over the last three years and we are sure you will join the Trust in wishing Mark the very best of luck in his future endeavours.

"We will be advertising immediately for a new Headteacher to lead Skipton Girls’ High School with a view to making a new appointment before May half term, to start on 1st September 2022."

The school says it is looking for a 'special leader who has the energy, flair and creativity needed to lead a high performing school in its drive for continuous improvement', adding that it is is 'rare opportunity for an ambitious leader to be at the forefront of shaping the future of education as part of a growing and dynamic Trust Partnership'.
