Police warning after reports of bogus cold callers in Ilkley

West Yorkshire Police is warning residents in Ilkley to be on their guard after someone tried to gain entry to a property by pretending to be from a housing association.

Officers say a report was made of a man phoning an Ilkley resident posing as a worker from Incommunities and saying they would be coming to the property to check the double glazing.

A woman arrived at a property on West Parade and asked to come inside the property. The resident didn't let her in, and on speaking to Incommunities discovered that the visitor wasn't genuine.

The female suspect is described as white female, 5ft8”, medium build, late 20s, with fair hair and was wearing a black coat.

Police in Ilkley say residents should remain vigilant if any cold callers approach their homes or contact them via telephone. They also say you should not hand over any money or personal details to anyone you are not expecting.

If you are unsure, always ask for official identification or a contact telephone number. Never feel under pressure, you are under no obligation.

Make sure you check their identification and if you have any doubts at all about their authenticity, ask them to wait while you call the company they claim to work for to verify they are indeed an employee.

Anyone with any information or concerns is asked to contact the police via 101 or alternatively information can be passed to Action Fraud.
