Members from Sutton-in-Craven Cricket Club have raised £500 for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity through their annual charity cricket game.

The charity raises funds to support patients, their families, and staff at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

Every year on the August bank holiday, the volunteer-run cricket club holds an annual charity match in memory of someone that used to play for the club. The match in 2022 was the first one after a couple of years due to the events being cancelled because of the pandemic.

The day began with a parent versus children game in the morning, followed by a knock-out competition for Sutton-in-Craven Cricket Club teams and other teams made up of locals from the village. The club also provided entertainment in the evening and held a raffle which raised the £500.

The cricket club donated the funds to the charity’s general fund which can be used by all departments at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and can be spent where it’s most needed.

Stuart Todd from the cricket club said: “This is one of our busiest days of the year and it was great for so many people to volunteer to help.

“We’ve supported Airedale Charity for a couple of years by providing children with crickets sets. It’s great to be able to give back to such an important charity that is located so close to our ground.

“We all know people that have had to visit Airedale at some point, and we praise the staff for their fantastic efforts to keep us safe and help us with our recovery.

“We’d like to thank everyone that supports Sutton-in-Craven Cricket Club throughout the year, giving us the opportunity to give something back to a fantastic charity. We look forward to supporting Airedale Charity in the very near future.”

Jodie Hearnshaw, manager at Airedale Hospital and Community Charity, said: “Thank you to Sutton-in-Craven Cricket Club for their continued support. They’ve been very supportive of our children’s services over the past couple of years, and we’re delighted that they decided to donate such a fabulous amount to our general fund!”
