Local cafes join Brownlee brothers' fundraising challenge

Here are all the local cafes taking part in The Cafes Are Open which is raising money for The Brownlee Foundation this autumn.

From Friday 4th September until 30th November you can visit 5 cafes from the list and take a photo of the special plaque on the wall. Submit your pictures online and make a donation to the charity and you could get some goodies from Yorkshire Tea.

The charity challenge has been created by Wharfedale-born Olympic triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee to support their charity which provides opportunities for young people to get involved in sport.

Walkers, runners and cyclists are being encouraged to visit a trail of cafes and tea rooms. The first 500 people to complete the challenge will receive a special bundle of goodies from Yorkshire Tea and a chance to win a cycle ride with the Brownlees.

Alistair told Rombalds Radio: "As were both cycling around in lockdown, mostly on our own, the things we really missed was being able to have a cafe stop with a tea and a bit of cake. We realised during these times one of the sectors that's been really affected is the hospitality sector - these cafes can be the real centre of the communities in the rural parts of Yorkshire. So we thought it would be great if we could help drive people to some of these cafes and get people out active - cycling, running, walking in the countryside."

Jonny added: "We are experts in the cafes of Yorkshire, so we chose 15 that we visit. People can visit 5 of them, take a picture of themselves with the plaque and donate £30 to The Brownlee Foundation then the first 500 will get an amazing Yorkshire Tea goodie and hopefully they've had a great day out!"
