Keighley's Captain Sir Tom to appear on ITV Life Stories

Keighley-born NHS fundraiser and war veteran Captain Sir Tom Moore is to feature in an upcoming episode of Piers Morgan's Life Stories on ITV1.

Captain Sir Tom, who was knighted this summer for his work to raise almost £33m by walking 100 laps of his garden, will talk about his time in World War II as well as his fundraising effort and the public's response to it.

Tom, 100, had originally set out to raise £1,000 - but after his story was picked up by the media the admiration and donations snowballed.

A huge sign to honour Captain Tom's achievements (pictured) was also erected on the former Keighley College site on North Street in June.

The new series of Life Stories will also feature former Leeds United footballer Vinnie Jones, who becomes the first guest to return to the programme. He'll discuss the death of his wife from cancer and how his life has changed since his last appearance in 2009.

Piers Morgan said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be interviewing two such great British characters. I’ve known Vinnie for over 30 years and Captain Tom for just a few months, but I’m a huge admirer of the way both men have handled the highs and lows of their lives and these promise to be very emotional and inspiring shows.”

Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment at ITV, added: “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories are always an in-depth and sincere look into fascinating characters’ lives, and these two won’t disappoint.

“Both Vinnie and Captain Tom promise to be special, heartfelt episodes and what better way to celebrate the return of this much loved series?”

The new series will be broadcast in September on ITV1.
