Ilkley Cinema reopens this week

Screen 2 at Ilkley Cinema

Movie goers will once again be able to enjoy a trip to the flicks as Ilkley Cinema reopens on Wednesday after being closed for four months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of changes have been rolled out to ensure social distancing can be adhered to inside as Co-Director John Hewitt explains: “We have taken extensive steps to provide a safe, clean and most of all enjoyable experience and escape from the difficulties of recent months.

Our new dynamic booking system automatically blocks the seats immediately next to any booking, so couples and households can sit together, or single people can still go and the seats either side of their booking will be blocked to ensure the 1 metre plus distancing. The distance between people from row to row is over 1 metre in both screens.

Both screens have a fully filtered fresh air circulation system in each to provide even more comfort and safety.”

Tickets are now available for a variety of films showing from the 12th of August including Rosamund Pike’s portrayal of Marie Curie in the film Radioactive, or Summerland, a WWII story of and Englishwomen opening her heart to an evacuee during the war. These as well as films such as Misbehaviour, Little Women, Onward, Dirty Dancing and Parasite.

Films coming soon include Bill Nighy’s Hope Gap, a relationship set in a seaside town, Tenet, Warner Brothers new blockbuster from the director of 1917 and the Truth, a French film about the stormy re-union of an actress and her daughter staring Juliet Binoche and Ethan Hawke.  The cinema also has several Event Cinema performances on sale.

Ilkley Cinema will be offering the Eat Out To Help Out scheme as John adds: “We are working hard to provide a better bar experience and encourage customers to drop in for a drink or food on our balcony area at any time during the day or on an evening even if they do not have time to watch a film, we have also joined the "eat to help out” voucher scheme which gives customers 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks up to a value of £10 per head on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August.

Food and drink can be consumed when seated in the bar, lounge and auditoriums and there is now an exemption to wearing masks in the recent government guidelines to provide for this.”

Further information on films and time are available from the Ilkley Cinema website at www.ilkleycinema.co.uk

Other cinemas locally, the Plaza Skipton and the Picture House in Keighley have yet to announce any reopening plans.
