‘Give a Toy’ campaign aims to share happiness through toys

Bradford Council is launching a ‘Give a Toy’ campaign to bring joy to children from across all communities for the start of 2021.

This year has been a tough one from many families throughout the district and this new campaign running after Christmas and throughout January aims to share happiness through toys.

Lots of lucky children across the district receive new toys, games, bikes and scooters as presents at this time of year. The council is encouraging residents who have good quality toys, bikes and scooters that their children have grown out of, to consider donating them to the campaign so that other children can get enjoyment from them. This can also include electronic and battery powered items.

People are encouraged to use the time between Christmas Day and the New Year to think about children less fortunate than theirs and have a sort through their children’s old toys and help them to choose some to donate to the campaign.

Bradford residents can bring their good quality unwanted toys, games, bikes and scooters to any Bradford Council Household Waste and Recycling Centre between Monday 28 December and Sunday 10 January.  In Ilkley, Golden Butts Road is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 4pm and Keighley's Royd Ings Avenue is open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to 12 noon and Sunday 9am to 4pm - *please note opening times may vary over new year.

The council will make sure they are passed on to children’s charities and given to those in need during January 2021.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Portfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places said: “This year has been so tough and especially difficult for those in our district who are on low incomes who have children. Our Give a Toy Campaign aims to help to bring joy to children from across all our communities in the district at the beginning of next year. This is a wonderful way of re-using toys rather than them going to waste.

“If your children have grown out of or no longer play with some of their toys please consider donating them to the campaign so that other children can get enjoyment out of them.”
