Covid vaccine to arrive in Bradford and Craven next week

NHS England, which is leading the roll-out of the vaccine, has confirmed that the first batches will reach Bradford and Craven on Monday.

Council leaders have welcomed the news that the first delivery of Covid-19 vaccines will arrive in the district next week, 14 December.

The Joint Committee on Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI) has also published its final advice for the priority groups to receive the vaccine in Bradford.

This recommends that the first vaccine will be offered to patients over 80 years of age from the 15 December. However, this will not include those who are aged 80 and housebound but a timetable is being developed as the second delivery will include vaccination of residents in care homes.

Local NHS health partners are working together with Council staff in order to be able to deliver and implement the vaccinations across the district over the following months.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council, said: “This is the news we have all been waiting for – that a Covid-19 vaccine is finally on its way to Bradford district. NHS and Council staff in the district have been working hard to ensure systems are in place that will enable the people who need the vaccine to receive it.

“However, we all need to be aware that the number of vaccines will be limited to start with and the initial vaccination invitations will be going to people in the district aged over 80.

“We have a long way to go before larger stocks of vaccines are available to the public and that means we must continue to stick to the rules, wash our hands regularly, wear a mask where necessary and keep a 2 metre gap when possible, and also celebrate Christmas safely.”
