Airedale Hospital announces new Medical Director

David Crampsey has been appointed Medical Director at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and will take charge of leading medical colleagues at the trust.

David was previously Deputy Medical Director and is an ENT surgeon. He became Interim Executive Medical Director in June 2020 after the retirement of Karl Mainprize and previously held the post of Deputy Medical Director and Divisional Director for Surgery and Diagnostics when he first joined Airedale Hospital in February 2018.

He trained in Glasgow, London and Christchurch, New Zealand and held roles in Glasgow before joining Airedale. He has had an active interest in leadership and management for many years, and participated in Cohort 10 of the NHS Scotland Delivering the Future leadership development programme. He is a member of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, and a member of the BMA Medical Managers’ Committee.

He is actively involved in system leadership across West Yorkshire and Harrogate, and has been Co-Chair of the Bradford District and Craven System Planned Care Oversight Board.

He lives locally and outside of work enjoys travelling, cooking and socialising with friends.

David says: “I am delighted to be appointed as Executive Medical Director at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. When I moved here from Glasgow two and a half years ago, I had no idea how quickly I would feel deeply connected to this hospital and its community. It is a truly fantastic place to work and live. As part of my role, I have been fortunate to work closely with our Health and Care partners across Bradford District and Craven. I will continue to do so, as we further develop the joined up approach to services which our population rightly expects.

"Clearly, in the current period my priority will be our populations and workforce as they respond to the challenge of COVID 19. I also want to focus on support and development of our staff to deliver the highest quality healthcare for the people we serve.”

Brendan Brown, Chief Executive of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust says: “I’m delighted to confirm that David Crampsey has been appointed as Executive Medical Director for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. This is a great appointment for Airedale.  David brings a wealth of experience to the role, as well as an understanding of Airedale from his two years as deputy medical director here.  His is also actively involved in system leadership locally and across West Yorkshire and Harrogate.”
