Winning designs announced in Keighley anti speeding campaign

One of the winning designs, Isla Hill from Ingrow Primary School

As part of its campaign against anti-social speeding across the Parish, Keighley Town Council has worked with local Primary Schools on a competition whereby school children were invited to design an “anti-speeding” banner.

The winning designs were then made into correx boards to be displayed on the School railings.

Cllr Anayat Mohammad, Vice Chair of Watch & Transport Committee said “The Council is delighted to have created this initiative that has inspired so many of our primary school children to highlight the danger of speeding, particularly outside their school. I hope this concern they have shown through these drawings stays with them through their development years.”

List of Winners:

  • Ingrow Primary School – Isla Hill
  • Long Lee Primary School – Matthew Turner
  • Laycock Primary School – Layla Groarke
  • Our Lady of Victories Primary School – Hooria Faisal
  • Eastwood Community School – Fahima Rashid

Miss Desanj, Deputy Headteacher of Ingrow Primary School said: “Myself and Mrs Murphy hold road safety close to our hearts. We are working closely with our local PCSO to ensure people are parking safely around the school and keeping within the speed limits. We are very proud of Isla winning this competition”

“We were really pleased to be invited to take part in the campaign to encourage drivers to slow down and drive carefully when close to our school. Matthew's design is really eye-catching and gives a clear message to drivers to slow down. We hope all drivers follow his message as speeding is an issue we have been troubled with at Long Lee.” Sue Holdsworth, Long Lee Primary School Headteacher.

and from Laycock Primary School, Headteacher Juliet Nove said:“It’s so important we continue to raise awareness of road safety, and especially speeding outside school. Nothing is more important than the safety of our children, and we all have a part to play in this. Layla’s banner will be a daily reminder to all drivers to slow down.”
