Lesley Garrett and Wynne Evans lined up for Skipton Gateways Festival

Soprano Lesley Garrett and tenor Wynne Evans have been announced among the acts for The Great Yorkshire Dales Proms in Skipton's Aireville Park next summer as part of the Gateways Festival.

The proms event will take place on Friday 22nd July 2022, at the start of a weekend of live music in the park.

Alongside Yorkshire opera star Lesley and the Go-Compare man Wynne, there will be West End star Sophie Evans. Sophie has most recently appeared in the London production of the musical Wicked, and rose to prominence through her appearance on the BBC's Over the Rainbow programme which sought to cast Dorothy for a new production of The Wizard of Oz.

Other guests include a quartet of young emerging British talent from the Royal Northern College of Music. Accompanying the line up with an imaginative and eclectic mix of classical favourites, film scores and musical medleys will be the 60-piece Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra conducted by Skipton's Ben Crick.

The evening will end with a fireworks finale and all the proms anthems, including Rule Britannia, Pomp and Circumstance No 1 and Jerusalem.

Wynne Evans - a BBC presenter as well as a talented Welsh Tenor and Go-Compare advert star - will host the evening.

Director of Gateways Festival, Eddie Elliott-Smith, said “We are delighted to be welcoming Britain’s best-known soprano Lesley Garrett CBE, to headline what will be an extraordinary concert. We’re also thrilled to have special guests Wynne Evans host the show and singer and actress Sophie Evans providing stunning performances for what is going to be a musical treat for all the family.”
