Keighley residents to vote on future of former college site

At a public meeting in Keighley this week it was agreed to hold a parish poll on the future of the former college site in the town.

The meeting on Wednesday was held at the Civic Centre to discuss the future of the site on North Street and Cavendish Street.

Three questions will now be put to a vote of all registered electors in Keighley. The three questions agreed are:

⚫️Do you want a Health & Wellbeing Hub in Keighley?
⚫️Do you want a Health & Wellbeing Hub on the vacant land at the corner of North Street & Cavendish Street?
⚫️Should the vacant land at the corner of North Street & Cavendish Street be recognised as a Public Open Space?

Commenting on the Parish Meeting Town Mayor Cllr Luke Maunsell said: “the Electors of Keighley have decided to hold a Public Poll on the issue of the old, college site on the corner of North Street and Cavendish. As Mayor, I urge the people of this town to turn out and get their voice heard on this issue.

More democracy is never a bad thing and I hope all will engage constructively in this debate, regardless of their views on this issue, to enable a truly representative result of the poll."

The Parish Poll will be held within 25 days and will be overseen by Bradford Metropolitan Council as the Elections Authority. Polling stations will be open between 4.00pm and 9.00pm on the designated polling day.

Information and guidance to the parish poll will be published shortly on the town council website www.keighley.gov.uk
