Keighley parks to host summer fun play events

Olympic-themed games, a climbing wall and a bouncy castle are all coming to Victoria Park, Devonshire Park, Lund Park and Hainworth Rec through the holidays to keep kids active.

It's all part of a series of free activity-packed fun days in parks across the Bradford district while children are off school, with 5 to 14 year olds invited to sessions taking place between 11am and 3pm each day.

At every event you’ll find bouncy castles, an inflatable assault course, giant games, sports coaching with an Olympic-theme and superhero-themed arts and crafts. A climbing tower will be at every venue (except Hainworth Rec) and many will also include adventure play, dancing, story-telling in the rainbow story tent and performance arts, music and theatre as part of 'Summer Unlocked'.

Free, healthy packed lunches are available between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, subject to demand.

Any primary school children who recently received a LivingWell pedometer at school can bring it along and enter Olympic-style games to win prizes.

The dates for the sessions in Keighley are as follows:
Thursday 29th July - Lund Park, Keighley
Saturday 7th August - Victoria Park, Keighley
Tuesday 10th August - Devonshire Park, Keighley
Thursday 19th August - Lund Park, Keighley
Saturday 21st August - Victoria Park, Keighley
Sunday 22nd August - Hainworth Recreation Ground, Keighley

Councillor Imran Khan, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for education, employment and skills at Bradford Council, said: “The Play in Parks events will bring fun to all children and young people across the district after what has been a tough year for them and their families.

“We want every child in the Bradford district to enjoy their holiday being active, playing and having fun with friends. It will be great to see them outside, in the fresh air, enjoying themselves and celebrating the summer.

“The range of park locations means we can ensure that free school meal and other disadvantaged children across the district have free access to fun this summer.

“I would encourage families to check out when we are coming to their local park and come along and join the fun.”

The Play in Parks events are jointly funded by the Department for Education’s Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) and Living Well.
