On the May 1st the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale is once again running The Great Ilkley Duck Race on the same day at the Ilkley Carnival.
In the last two years the event has raised around £12,000 for local charities. There will be a difference this year as local businesses will have the chance to participate, there will be a team of ‘business red ducks’ jockeying for position amongst the 6,000 yellow ducks which businesses can sponsor for £50.
A spokesperson for the Rotary Club said: “All the money raised will go to supporting local charities as well as Community enhancement projects with the Club hoping for a bumper year because there are so many charities struggling to support worthy causes in these difficult times.
“The business ducks could win their sponsors some great prizes from a Jeroboam of Bollinger champagne, sponsored by Ilkley BID, an evening of drinks and nibbles for 25 people at the elegant Ticket Office Bar sponsored by Ilkley Business Forum or maybe a Magnum of champagne provided by Majestic Wine, Ilkley.
“All those businesses that participate will be recognised in Club and Duck Race literature and will also get a small window sticker to display at their discretion.
“The Club is well known in the area for supporting Community Enhancement and Local Charities most recently including the Station Plaza flower beds through Improving Ilkley, Riverside Park Children’s Play Area through Friends of Riverside Park and Charities such as Ilkley Food Bank, the Ukraine local guest support, Manorlands and Martin House and many others too numerous to mention here.
