Festive tractor parade raises more than £6,000 for local charities

The Lothersdale Agricultural Society Discussion Group has handed over cheques for more than £3,000 each to Manorlands Hospice and Airedale Hospital from its inaugural Rudolph's Run.

The convoy of around 60 tractors decked with Christmas trees and lights went on a convoy from Laycock near Keighley to Skipton on 19th December, lighting up the Aire valley and bringing cheer to hundreds of local residents who turned out to watch.

The procession has raised a total of more than £6,000 to support the work of Airedale Hospital and Community Charity and Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. The funds raised from the event were presented to representatives from the two charities earlier this month.

Talking about the festive fundraiser, Andrew Walker from Lothersdale Agricultural Society Discussion Group said: “We’re delighted with the success of our first-ever Rudolph's Run, which spread smiles and festive cheer in support of two wonderful local causes. A huge thank you to everyone involved in the event and all the onlookers who braved the weather to watch the festive parade as it passed by.”

Andrew Wood, Community Fundraising Manager at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, said: “A big thank you to Lothersdale Agricultural Society Discussion Group for organising this fantastic event - seeing the smiles on people’s faces as the tractors drove by was wonderful. The funds raised will support our expert palliative care and bereavement support, helping us to continue to be there when it matters for local families.”

Victoria Pickles, Director of Corporate Affairs at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, added: “We are extremely grateful for the support from Lothersdale Agricultural Society Discussion Group. They raised an incredible amount and provided our community with some much needed Christmas cheer. The funds raised will make a huge difference to both patients and staff at Airedale.”
